The Inspiration

Mount Washington Alpine has experienced many new developments in recent years. The new Sun Rise and Boomerang chairs are new.

One of my favorites is night skiing. The bright lights in the mountains allows people who work during the day to get up into the alpine, into the winter evening and enjoy the freedom and exercise that skiing provides.

From the valley below, the mountain is lit up in a very dramatic fashion, beckoning people to break out of the “box” and look for excitement so close at hand!

One of the charms of living in Vancouver was a similar possibility. Night skiing at Grouse and Seymour Mountains was close at hand. Mount Washington is only 45 minutes from most  communities in the valley below.

There is also night lighting at Raven Lodge, so cross country folk can go skiing in the winter evening.

The added bonus is participating in the night life on the mountain. Live music, dancing, food, and wine are all available at Fat Freddies in the Lodge.

When I look up from the valley below, I imagine one of Van Gogh’s “Starry Starry Night” paintings. The fog swirls around the glowing lights and the stars and planet Venus orbits above. This movement creates shades of blues and greens that Vincent was famous for.

We can see Mount Washington from our hot tub in Black Creek. At night when the ski runs are lit up for night skiing, it has a special romantic appeal.
