I am revisiting the Yukon in my new paintings. in the past I did a commission for Canada Tungsten Mining spent 4 months painting the mine as well as the surrounding landscape. Later I taught outreach for the provincial art school and to get to places like Cassiar and Altin had to travel through Watson Lake and Whitehorse in the Yukon.

Log Cabin and the Northern Lights Yukon River 24×30 inch acrylic on canvas My current favourite writer is Jack London, Call of Wild, his short stories and Biography are brilliant prose. He would have gotten the nobel prize but he died before it came into existance. This is his cabin in Dawson where he wrote his 1500 words everyday. At the peak of his fame he made $75,000 a year unfortunately his expenses were $100,000 a lot of people took him to the cleaners!! He said being in constant debt motivated him to keep frantically writing his stories. he only managed 5 hours sleep at night, became progressively more depressed and drank himself to death at 40.

WHITE PASS RR CARCROSS 24×30 inch Carcross was in stategic location as Lake Bennett Flowed into the Yukon River and on to Dawson and the Gold. Its interesting the Black Spruce forest has still not fully recovered from being logged to build the boats that transported people and cargo and that was over 130 years ago! The town is also on the White Pass Railway a major tourist attraction starting in Skagway Alaska.
